Summary
[edit]DescriptionTrafalgar Square (18921514185).jpg | This is a Raphael Tuck postcard in the "Town and City" series. It was published in July 1905 and posted in August 1905 and shows the Grand Hotel in Trafalgar Square together with a hotel porter or bell boy in the foreground. The camera has caught the hoarding surrounding the building work for the new Trafalgar Square underground station on the extreme left. Work started in 1904 so this may be summer 1904 but more likely summer 1905. The Company which built the station was the Baker Street and Waterloo Railway, the line was later shortened to the Bakerloo line when the underground system was taken over by the Underground Electric Railway Company. |
