INTERVIEW: Egyptian captain in Switzerland – Introducing Wael Tolba

Wael Mohamed Nagy - Wael Tolba

Diving deep into the lower divisions of Swiss football, KingFut.com’s Ziad Ibrahim speaks with Egyptian captain of FC Schwamendingen Wael Tolba on his time in Switzerland and ambitions to become a coach in Egypt.

Name: Wael Mohamed Nagy Tolba
Date of Birth: April 6, 1981
Height: 1.82 m (5 ft 8 in)
Position: Centre-Back
Current Club: FC Schwamendingen (Switzerland)
Previous Clubs: Al-Nasser (Egypt)

Wael Tolba is a right-footed centre-back who played for Al-Nassr in Egypt, before temporarily quitting football at the age of 20 to focus on his education. Tolba later took advantage of his family’s move to Switzerland and signed for lower division side FC Schwamendingen during the 2011/2012 season.

Despite being a 32-year old player, Wael aims to be competing on a higher level in Switzerland within the next five years.

FC Schwamendingen is a club based in Switzerland, and competes in the 5th division,” Tolba told King Fut‘s Ziad Ibrahim.

Regarding his club, Wael Mohamed Nagy, better known as Tolba, told us how the system works in regards to affiliation with other clubs in Switzerland, similar to Egypt’s Wadi Degla, Lierse SK and KV Turnhout.

“FC Schwamendingen is in affiliation with four clubs, two of which compete in the 5th division, one competes in the 4th division and one competes in the 2nd division. The player who plays for one of the four clubs is eligible to play for the other three clubs, according to their needs and according to the player’s performance.”

When Tolba decides to hang up his boots and retire from playing football, he plans to undergo training courses to become a professional coach, which is his major ambition.

“I wish that I can be useful to Egypt as a coach after I get my coaching license in five years,” Nagy concluded.

It’s worth noting that Wael Tolba is the fifth Egyptian playing in Switzerland (that we currently know of), along with Mohamed El-Nenny (FC Basel), Mahmoud Kahraba and Omar Thaali (FC Luzern), and Sherif Ashraf (FC Biel-Bienne).

KingFut.com wishes Wael Tolba the best of luck with the remainder of his career.
