Premier League and Arsenal icon Ian Wright has shared his thoughts on Salah, his contract situation, and the likelihood of the Egyptian extending his stay at Liverpool.
Salah secured a new three-year deal in 2022, making him Liverpool’s highest-paid player at £350,000 per week; however, there hasn’t been any progress on extending the deal further.
With his contract set to expire next summer and the forward showing no signs of slowing down, there is increasing pressure on the Reds to secure a new deal.
Salah will now be able to sign a pre-contract with a new club come January, as the Saudi interest grows, with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold in the same situation.
Wright believes that Salah is likely to remain at Liverpool beyond his current contract, and he expects the winger to continue breaking records at Anfield.
Commenting on Salah’s situation, the former Arsenal player said, “I get the impression that he would probably like to stay at Liverpool and continue breaking records. He has that legacy to play for.
“Let’s say he stays for three more years. Even if he drops off in the last year, that would be 10 years of unbelievable service to Liverpool.
“I believe he will probably stay if Liverpool handle it the right way.”
Since signing his latest contract, Salah has moved into the top six of Liverpool’s all-time top goal scorers, with 214 goals so far. He is closing in on club legends Billy Liddell and Gordon Hodgson, while Ian Rush remains at the top of the list with 346 goals.
The 32-year-old has started the season in excellent form, contributing three goals and three assists in Liverpool’s opening three games under new manager Arne Slot.
Liverpool’s next match is against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, 14 September at 5 PM CET at Anfield.
