Former Brentford defender joins Saudi Arabia's Al-Riyadh

Saudi Pro League club Al-Riyadh have completed the signing of 31-year-old French defender Yoann Barbet.

The French defender has signed a one-year deal as a free agent after his contract with Girondins de Bordeaux expired as the club entered into administration.

Barbet arrives in Saudi Arabia with a wealth of experience, having also played in England with Brentford and QPR, before returning to his boyhood club Bordeaux in 2022.

During his time in England, Barbet made over 220 appearances in the EFL Championship and a further 18 appearances between the FA Cup and the EFL Cup.

Having managed to stay up last season, Al-Riyadh are preparing itself for another relegation fight, signing Canadian keeper Milan Borjan, Burkinabe striker Mohamed Konate, Brazil’s Lucas Kal, and Bernard Mensah of Ghana.

They started their season with a 3-3 draw with Al-Wehda and their next game will be on Thursday, August 29 against Al-Kholood at 6:45 PM CET.
