London 2012: KingFut’s top 5 Egyptian U23s to watch

Over the past two weeks here at KingFut, we’ve been providing you with scouting reports on the hottest upcoming Egyptian prospects who’ll be participating at the London 2012 Olympics. From the safe hands of goalkeeper Ahmed El Shennawy and the strong physical presence of Fiorentina’s Ahmed Hegazy to the creativity and blistering pace of FC Basel’s Mohamed Salah, there’s plenty of talent in this Egyptian squad to go places. To recap, here are our top five players to watch:


 

#5 – Ahmed El Shennawy

Pros:

  • Confident and commanding.
  • Anticipation.
  • Collecting crosses.
  • Reflex saves from close range shots.

Cons:

  • Distribution.
  • Lack of experience.
  • Slow getting down for low shots from long range.

#4 – Ahmed Hegazy

Pros:

  • Great awareness.
  • Leads the back-line solidly.
  • Very strong and physical.
  • Dominant aerial presence.
  • Strong header of the ball.
  • Never gives up.

Cons:

  • Shaky dribbling.
  • Forward runs may leave defense exposed.
  • Often plays tedious long balls.

 

#3 – Mohamed El-Nenny

Pros:

  • Excellent vision and distribution.
  • Accurate short and long passing.
  • Good stamina (rare among Egyptian footballers).
  • High effort level.

Cons:

  • Needs to bulk up to handle tough opposition.
  • Still a very raw talent.

 

#2 – Islam Ramadan

Pros:

  • Strong left-back.
  • Solid tackles.
  • No-nonsense clearances.
  • Great short-passes and decent crosses.
  • Powerful strike.

 Cons:

  • Heading accuracy.
  • Crossing accuracy.

 

#1 – Mohamed Salah

Pros:

  • Blistering speed.
  • Powerful left foot.
  • Good dribbler.
  • Neat finisher.
  • Short through passes.
  • Excellent vision and distribution.

Cons:

  • Selfish at times.
  • Often holds onto the ball for too long.
  • Doesn’t play the simple pass.
  • Weak physique.
