Sundowns' Ronwen Williams competes for Yashin Trophy

South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has been shortlisted for the prestigious Yashin Trophy, awarded to the best goalkeeper in the world.

Williams enjoyed a standout season, playing a crucial role in helping his club Mamelodi Sundowns secure the inaugural African Super League trophy and reach the CAF Champions League semi-finals.

His most impressive performances, however, came on the international stage when he was instrumental in South Africa’s third-place finish at the 2024 AFCON, earning him the Best Goalkeeper award of the tournament.

The competition for the Yashin Trophy will be tough, with Williams facing tough rivals, including Euro 2024 winner Unai Simon, Copa America 2024 winner Emiliano Martinez, Diogo Costa, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Gregor Kobel, Andriy Lunin, Mike Maignan, Giorgi Mamardashvili, and Yann Sommer.

The winner of the Yashin Trophy will be announced on October 28, 2024, in Paris.
