Cairo giants Al Ahly have reached the semi-finals of the 2023 Basketball Africa League after beating hosts REG BBC.
The playoffs are currently held from 20 May to 27 May 2023 in the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda.
Al Ahly had qualified for the playoffs after finishing second in the Nile Conference, where they won four games and lost just once to Petro de Luanda.
In the opening game of the playoffs, Al Ahly came up against REG of Rwanda and the hosts were no match to Ehab Amin and his teammates.
The first quarter ended in a 23-18 lead to Al Ahly, before the point gap was increased to 14 points in the second quarter for both teams to enter half-time at the scoreline of 46-32.
The hosts reduced the deficit to just three points in the third quarter, but Al Ahly managed to finish the quarter with a 15-point lead, before winning the tie with a scoreline of 94-77.
Ehab Amin was named the game’s MVP after scoring 22 points with South Sudanese Nuni Omot also scoring 16 points for the Reds.
Al Ahly will now face Malian giants Stade Malien in the semi-finals on May 25, hoping to seal a spot in the finals and the title for the first time.
