BASKETBALL: Al Ahly crowned Egypt champions over Ittihad of Alexandria

Al Ahly have been crowned Egyptian Basketball Super League for the second successive year after defeating Ittihad of Alexandria 72-70 in game four.

The Red Devils advanced to the Super League play-off final after thrashing arch-rivals Zamalek 3-0 in the semi-finals, the same result that Ittihad of Alexandria beat Smouha with.

The tournament’s finale was extremely close, as the two teams had to play four games in order to determine the winner.

The first game saw Al Ahly coming out on top with the result of 69-62, before Ittihad of Alexandria tied the score by winning the second game 80-62.

However, the Reds quickly made their comeback, winning the third game 67-58, before emerging victorious 72-70 in game four and clinching the Super League title.

Al Ahly’s Ehab Amin was named the playoffs final’s MVP, while his teammate Amr Zahran picked up the best three-pointer shooter award and Ittihad’s Anas Osama won the top scorer award.

This marks Al Ahly’s second Egyptian Basketball Super League title in a row and their 7th in the club’s history.

This also marks the club’s third trophy this season, having won the Egyptian Mortabat League and the Egypt Cup under Spanish manager Augustí Julbe.
