Egypt international Ahmed Hegazi has officially completed a move to Saudi second-tier side NEOM SC from Ittihad Jeddah.
Having joined Ittihad Jeddah in October 2020 from West Brom, it has been revealed that the Tigers are keen on offloading Hegazi this summer after struggling with injuries last season.
Hegazi missed the first half of the season due to an ACL injury, before returning in December to make 21 appearances in which he scored twice as Ittihad failed to defend their league title and finished fifth.
With his contract still running until June 2026, Hegazi was linked with a return to African champions Al Ahly, which he publicly revealed to be his desire; however, he opted to remain in Saudi Arabia instead with second-tier side NEOM SC.
The club didn’t reveal any details of the deal but welcomed the 33-year-old, who played for Al Ahly, Fiorentina, and West Brom during his career.
NEOM got promoted to the second tier after winning the Saudi Second Division League (third tier) last season and wants to push for historic back-to-back promotions to the Saudi Pro League.
Coached by Brazilian boss Péricles Chamusca, NEOM have already made a number of major signings this summer, including Ittihad’s playmaker Romarinho, former Juventus striker Mbaye Diagne, and Al Tai midfielder Alfa Semedo.
The club also has former Real Betis midfielder Petros in their squad and Egypt’s Ahmed Fouad, who played for Pharco, Al Batin, and Al Aluminum during his career.
Hegazi, 33, will surely bring a lot of experience to the team, having made over 100 appearances during his time in Jeddah, securing them a historic league title in 2023 and the Saudi Super Cup in the same year.
