OFFICIAL: Kouka returns to Rio Ave after nine years

Egypt international Ahmed Hassan Kouka has made a return to Portugal through former club Rio Ave on a free transfer.

Kouka played last season for Turkish club Pendikspor, before moving in February to Alanyaspor, scoring nine goals in 17 games mainly for the latter.

With his contract coming to an end in July, Kouka was linked with several moves across Europe, but he has decided to return back to Rio Ave, where he played for four years before.

Kouka initially joined Rio Ave’s youth ranks in 2011 from Al Ahly, before being promoted to the first team in 2012, where his performances earned him a move to Sporting Braga three years later.

During his stay in Vila do Conde, Kouka scored 32 goals in 98 appearances, leading the club to the UEFA Europa League in 2014 as well as losing three cup finals to Benfica.

The 31-year-old will now return to where it all began for him in Europe, signing a one-year deal that will expire by the end of the upcoming season.

Kouka will become Rio Ave’s 19th summer signing, with the club starting the season with three points from their opening three games.
