REPORT: Al Ahly in negotiations over ex-Zamalek winger Mostafa Fathi

It is reported that Al Ahly is in talks with Saudi club Al-Taawoun to sign ex-Zamalek forward Mostafa Fathi in the current summer transfer window.

Fathi is currently on a season-long loan from Al-Taawoun at Pyramids FC, scoring 12 and assisting seven in 47 appearances since September.

The 29-year-old had joined Al-Taawoun for a reported fee of $1 million after refusing to sign a new contract with the Whites.

Despite Pyramids FC having the option to make the deal permanent for $1 million, Saudi news outlet Al-Riyadiah reports that the club won’t exercise the option and Fathi could be on the move again.

Moreover, the report added that the Saudi club has instructed Fathi to join the team’s current training camp in the Netherlands until new offers are assessed for the purchase of what remains of his contract.

As he is currently undergoing mandatory military service in Egypt, Al-Taawoun reportedly doesn’t object to selling Fathi to an Egyptian club, which could be Al Ahly.

Qatari news channel Al-Kass went on to reveal that the African champions have already entered negotiations with the Saudi club, who asked for $1,400,000 to let go of the winger.

If the deal becomes successful, Fathi won’t be the only former Zamalek player to join the Reds this summer, as the club are said to be on the verge of signing FC Midtjylland’s Emam Ashour.

Fathi, who has 19 caps to his name, has a wealth of experience when it comes to Egyptian football, making over 230 appearances for Zamalek, Smouha, and Pyramids FC.
