Tala’a El-Gaish head coach Tarek El-Ashry confirmed Mostafa Fathi is close to joining the club due to the player’s military service issues.

Just last January, Fathi completed a $1m move to Saudi side Al-Taawoun from Zamalek after refusing to sign a new contract with the Whites.

The 28-year-old impressed in just a short time, scoring five goals while assisting twice in 12 league games, helping the club avoid the drop on the final matchday.

While Fathi is seen to be one of Al-Taawoun’s biggest names, he failed to report for the club’s pre-season camp in Holland amid rumours he is pushing for a move to Al Ahly.

The rumours have only grown stronger with Egyptian pundit Ahmed Shobeir confirming the negotiations between Mostafa and the Red Devils.

However, according to the Arriyadiyah news outlet, the real reason behind Fathi’s absence from the training camp is issues related to his military service.

Therefore news emerged linking the player with a move to military club Tala’a El-Gaish, where the player could join to undergo his mandatory service.

Tala’a El-Gaish head coach Tarek El-Ashry even went to confirm the news when asked about the situation by pundit Ahmed Hossam Mido.

“Signing Mostafa is highly probable,” El-Ashry said in a short answer.

Fathi won’t be the first player to represent Tala’a El-Gaish just to do his military service. Several players had to join the club before for the same reason, most notably Egypt legend and former Benfica player Abdelsattar Sabry.
