The EFA have announced that Egypt & African champions Al Ahly won’t feature in next season’s Egypt Cup.
The Reds had decided to pull out of last season’s Egypt Cup to allow their players time to rest and recover ahead of the new season.
The decision came after Al Ahly won all domestic and continental competitions they participated in last season, except for the FIFA Club World Cup, where they secured a third-place finish.
As a result of withdrawing from the Egypt Cup, the club are suspended from next season’s edition of the competition, which was confirmed by EFA board member Amer Hussein.
Speaking to the Egyptian TV channel Sada El Balad, Amer Hussein explained: “The regulations state that Al Ahly won’t participate in next season’s Egypt Cup as a penalty for their withdrawal from this year’s competition.
“Al Ahly were aware of the consequences of withdrawing from the cup, and they acknowledged these penalties in their official statement announcing the decision.”
The Egyptian Cup concluded on August 30 with Pyramids FC defeating ZED FC 1-0 in the final to secure their first-ever trophy.
