Egyptian weightlifter Sara Ahmed won gold at the World Championship held in Anaheim, United States from 28 November to 5 December 2017.

Ahmed emerged as winner of the clean & jerk competition in the 69kg category after successfully lifting 136kg in her third attempt. Sara, 19, had won the 2015 World Youth Weightlifting Championships and finished in fourth place at the 2015 World Weightlifting Championships.

The 2017 event saw Colombia’s Leidy Solís earn the silver medal after lifting 135kg, while the bronze medal went to the United States’ Ann Rogers who lifted 131kg.

Meanwhile, Egypt’s 2016 Olympic bronze medalist failed at all three attempts of the snatch competition.

This comes few hours after Egypt’s Mohamed Ihab made history by winning three gold medals at the World Championship, becoming the first African World Champion in a men’s event since 1984.
