Egypt’s Bilal Mazhar wins UEFA Youth League golden boot award

Egyptian youngster and Panathinaikos forward Bilal Mazhar has become the 2022-2023 UEFA Youth League goal scorer.

Bilal is the son of former Egyptian international Mazhar Abdelrahman, who wore the shirts of multiple big clubs including French outfit AS Monaco and Egypt giants Zamalek.

He had left Egypt for a chance abroad at the age of 15 and he’s now plying his trade for Greek giants Panathinaikos’ U19 team.

Last season, Bilal earned his side a spot in the UEFA Youth League after helping them win the Greek Super League 1 K19 title.

The 19-year-old made his mark in this season’s European competition scoring nine goals and providing an assist in four games.

Despite an early exit from the competition, the nine goals were enough for the Egyptian to win the top-scorer award alongside AZ Alkmaar’s Mexx Meerdink, who needed two extra games to match Mazhar.

Panathinaikos were knocked out of the playoffs by Porto as AZ Alkmaar went on to win the title, beating Croatian giants Hajduk Split in the final.

Mazhar’s remarkable tally has put a number of European clubs on alert as their scouts watched Mazhar in Panathinaikos’ defeat to Porto, according to Italian reporter Fabrizio Romano.
