Mohamed Salah relaxed despite Liveprool contract dilemma

Egyptian Winger Mohamed Salah is relaxed about his contract situation at Liverpool despite having his current deal expiring next summer.

Salah secured a new three-year deal in 2022, making him Liverpool’s highest-paid player at £350,000 per week; however, there hasn’t been any progress on extending the deal further despite it running out by the end of the current season.

The 32-year-old will now be able to sign a pre-contract with a new club come January, as the Saudi interest grows, with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold in the same situation.

According to the Athletic, Salah is in no hurry to make any commitments as is curious to see how the post-Jurgen Klopp era unfolds, something which the Egyptian confirmed himself-

Speaking to Sky Sports, Salah said: “I don’t think much (about it) to be fair.”

“With time you get a bit more wisdom. I came before the season and I was like, ‘Okay, I have one year left so let’s enjoy it. Don’t think about the contract now, don’t think about anything’.

“I don’t want to think about next year or the future. Let’s enjoy the last year and let’s see. Just take one day at a time and be grateful that you’re here.”

Regarding changes under new manager Arne Slot, Salah said “We play kind of different football now.

“The manager wants to control the ball all the time. With Jurgen (Klopp) sometimes it was go counter-press and try to attack all the time in their half. Now sometimes we slow the game down. It’s part of the plan and that’s the biggest difference.”

Mohamed Salah had a brilliant start to the season, scoring in Liverpool wins over Ipswich Town and Brentford.

The Reds are next in action in the English Classico against Manchester United at 6 PM CET on Sunday 1 September 2024.

Salah will be hoping to continue his remarkable record against the Red Devils, as he currently holds the record for the most goals scored in the derby, with 14 goals in 15 meetings.
