Mohamed Salah could reportedly play for a London-based club if his Liverpool expires by the end of the current season.
Salah secured a new three-year deal in 2022, making him Liverpool’s highest-paid player at £350,000 per week; however, there hasn’t been any progress on extending the deal further despite it running out by the end of the current season.
The 32-year-old will now be able to sign a pre-contract with a new club come January, as the Saudi interest grows, with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold in the same situation.
According to The Athletic, Salah is more relaxed now than he was in the summer of 2022 and is curious to see how the post-Jurgen Klopp era unfolds.
The Egyptian skipper is also in no hurry to make any commitments, with the decision of Liverpool to offer him a new contract depending on several factors, mainly on financial sustainability, which is prioritized by FSG, Liverpool’s owner.
It’s understood that FSG are reluctant to grant long-term extensions to players in their thirties, preferring shorter, performance-based contracts.
The report added that in the case of Salah leaving the club for another Premier League side, he won’t jeopardize his legacy at Liverpool, thus ruling out a move to Manchester United and Manchester City.
However, the situation could be different if an offer came from a London club, as he enjoys spending time in the city, where he previously lived during his time at Chelsea.
The report still added that despite Salah’s love for England, the most likely outcome for his departure would be a move to Saudi Arabia, which would love to have the most popular Arabic footballer to play in their growing Saudi Pro League.
Ittihad Jeddah have tried several times to bring in Mohamed Salah over the past few years, with several reports now emerging that the Saudi Public Investment Fund prefers to wait on signing the Egyptian on a free transfer rather than attempt another big-money offer.
