Ahmed Hossam Mido: I am better than Mohamed Salah

Former Spurs and Egypt striker Ahmed Hossam Mido believes he was technically better than Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah.

Mido, currently aged 41, had an eventful career in England where he spent five years playing in the Premier League, the longest spell he had in a foreign league.

The former Zamalek youngster moved to Europe at the age of 16, signing for Gent, before playing for several clubs around the continent, including Ajax, Celta de Vigo, Marseille, and AS Roma.

Mido also represented Spurs, Wigan, Middlesbrough, West Ham, and Barnsley in England, making 94 Premier League appearances in which he scored 22 goals and was regarded as the best-ever Egyptian to play abroad until the emergence of Mohamed Salah.

Despite Salah’s singular successes with Liverpool, which saw him win many individual and collective accolades, Mido still believes that he is more technically gifted than his compatriot; however, it was the mental attributes that helped Salah succeed more.

Mido quiz

Speaking to ONTime Sports, Mido said: “Who is like me? Name a striker in the last 30 years like Mido?

“I am the best striker to come out of the Zamalek youth sector in the last 30 years.

“Who played for Zamalek at the age of 16? Who was Egypt’s striker at 16? Who went professional at Ajax at 16? I believe no one else has done that but me.

“In terms of skills and football, I am better than Mohamed Salah, but he excelled in consistency and mentality, and that’s a fact that must be acknowledged.”
