Luis Felipe set for Ittihad stay, won’t return to Real Betis

Italian defender Luis Felipe is set to remain in Saudi Arabia with Ittihad Jeddah amid reports linking him with a return to Real Betis.

Saudi publication Arriyadiyah confirmed the news, insisting that Felipe will continue his journey in Saudi Arabia.

Reports in Spanish media had linked the defender with a return to his former club Real Betis, who are keen on strengthening their defensive area.

Felipe had joined Ittihad Jeddah last summer from Real Betis for a reported fee of €22 million, making 27 appearances for the Tigers in a disappointing campaign that saw them finish fifth.

The Tigers already lost Egyptian defender Ahmed Hegazi and are looking for a new foreign defender to partner Felipe for the upcoming season.

The club has already completed the signing of AS Roma midfielder Houssem Aouar, Aston Villa star Moussa Diaby and Serbian goalkeeper Predrag Rajković.

They are looking to rebuild their squad under new manager Laurent Blanc after their disastrous title-defending campaign where they finished fifth.
