VIDEO: Egypt U23 come back from behind to beat Russia in friendly

Egypt’s U23 national team came back from behind to beat Russia 2-1 in their final friendly of the September international camp.

The Young Pharaohs faced Russia in back-to-back friendlies in preparation for the 2024 Summer Olympics, which will be held from 24 July to 10 August 2024.

The first friendly saw Rogério Micale’s men play out a 1-1 draw after Stepan Oganesyan canceled out Bilal Mazher’s early goal.

Four days later, both teams faced each other again at the New Suez Stadium in the final game of the September camp.

Egypt XI: Ali Yehia, Ahmed Eid, Mohamed Maghraby, Mohamed Tarek, Hatem Sokkar; Mahmoud Gehad, Mahmoud Saber, Mohamed Shehata; Ali Zazaa, Ahmed Atef, Abdelerhaman Atef.

Just seven minutes into the game, Russia took the lead through Sergey Pinyaev from the spot after a handball on Mohamed Tarek.

The Egyptians tried to equalise in the first-half, but Hatem Sokkar’s strike hit the post in the 20th minute, before Mahmoud Saber’s effort went just wide.

At the half-time break, Micale brought on seven players, namely Arabi Badr, Mostafa Saad, Ahmed Sayed, Mohamed Samir, Omar Fayed, Ahmed Fawzi, and Ahmed Nader Hawash, before Mostafa Ashraf came on in the 66th minute.

In the 69th minute, Ahmed Fawzi equalised for Egypt after an acrobatic volley that hit Kirill Kravtsov’s before being deflected into the back of the net.

Three minutes later, Egypt found the winner after skipper Arabi Badr’s header from Mostafa Saad’s free-kick cross beat the keeper to make it 2-1.
