Egypt U-23 national team head coach Rogério Micale believes his side can get to a winning start int he 2023 AFCON opener against Niger.
The Pharaohs is now preparing to kick off the 2023 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations against Niger tomorrow, Sunday in the first round of group stages.
Egypt have been placed in Group B alongside Mali, Gabon, and Niger after they managed to secure qualification for the tournament following their 2-0 win over Zambia on aggregate.
The tournament is set to take place in Morocco from June 24th to July 8th as Egypt became the first country to book its spot after the hosts.
Rogerio Micale was full of confidence in his team’s ability to meet the Egyptian fans’ expectations of going far in the tournament.
“We aim for a strong start and worthy of the name of Egyptian football against Niger tomorrow,” Micale said in the pre-game conference.
“We have a convincing squad with brave players, and we are looking to achieve the fans’ dream of going far in the tournament.
“We watched the previous games of Niger and we respect them, but at the same time, we ask the Egyptian fans to be patient and have confidence in the players,” he added.
“I believe that all the matches are difficult, the tournament is strong, and all qualified teams are equal in their legitimate dreams.”
