Ex-Liverpool defender: I believe Salah will leave by the end of the season

Former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson has predicted that Mohamed Salah will leave Liverpool as a free agent once his contract expires.

Mohamed Salah is currently in the final 12 months of his contract, which expires at the end of this season.

Speaking to UK-based bookmaker, Betfred, Johnson said: “I believe Mo, but also Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, will leave. They’ll have a long list of clubs wanting to sign them as free agents, and if Liverpool knows they aren’t going to renew their contracts, it would be foolish not to cash in. You can’t have players of their caliber walking out on a free.”

When asked about Salah’s future, Johnson added: “It depends because Mo still has a lot to offer. He doesn’t play like someone who’s 32, so as long as he feels fit, he can continue at this level for a few more years.

“You’d hope a move to Saudi Arabia isn’t on his mind just yet. If he’s available on a free at the end of the season, there’ll be a list of exciting clubs ready to sign him.”

The Merseyside fan favorite, joined Liverpool in 2017, returning to English football after his brief time at Chelsea, which saw him spend most of his time with The Blues out on loan, giving him a chance to shine in the Serie A for Fiorentina and AS Roma.

During his time at Anfield, Salah has been instrumental in helping Liverpool secure Premier League and Champions League titles, scoring 214 goals in 353 appearances.

Salah has started this season strongly, netting three goals and providing three assists in Liverpool’s first four Premier League matches.

He also recently celebrated his 100th cap for Egypt during the last international break.
