Mohamed Salah is a rising Egyptian talent and one of the quickest forwards Egypt has ever witnessed. Dubbed as the ‘Egyptian Messi’, Salah plays as a false nine or a winger where he cuts through the middle causing havoc to defenses with his skill and speed. He’s a savvy footballer with a natural flair for both scoring and setting up goals. By mid 2012, Salah joined Swiss giants FC Basel on a 4-year contract as a natural replacement for Xherdan Shaqiri.

Salah bursted onto the scene in the 2010/2011 Egyptian Premier League season with Arab Contractors SC. He quickly received widespread praise for his speed (a rare trait in Egypt), both on and off the ball. His breakthrough to stardom came a year later, finishing top scorer of his team with seven goals and goal assists in 13 appearances before the season was cancelled.

By the age of 19, Salah has represented Egypt for all youth and senior levels. He played a crucial role in Egypt’s U-20 bronze medal win at the African Youth Championship and at the CAF U-23 Championship, qualifying Egypt to the London 2012 Olympics. In the London 2012 Olympics,  he scored in each of Egypt’s group stage fixtures against Brazil, New Zealand and Belarus.

That year Mohamed Salah also was awarded CAF’s Most Promising Talent of the Year for the crucial role he played in London and his impressive displays with FC Basel. Salah was named player of the season in Switzerland for 2012/13 after he helped Basel retain the Swiss Super League title and guiding the team to the semi-finals of the Europa League – with goals against the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea – for the first time in the club’s history. He concluded 2013 with heroics in the UEFA Champions League, scoring in each game against Chelsea to down Mourinho’s side twice in the group stage.

Salah is the youngest player to score for the Egyptian national team in a competitive match since 2001. His consistently impressive displays earned him a regular spot in the starting eleven, and he has been undoubtedly one of the best performers under Bob Bradley. He has been Egypt’s top scorer in their failed campaign to reach the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
