Garry Rodrigues warns Egypt ahead of crucial AFCON clash

Cape Verde winger Garry Rodrigues has revealed his team is eyeing nothing but the three points against Egypt despite the qualification.

The Tubarões Azuis have shocked the world by beating both Ghana and Mozambique to secure the top spot of group B and reach the round of 16 ahead of giants like Egypt and Ghana.

While their last group game against Egypt won’t matter for them, it will be crucial for the Pharaohs, who must win in it to reach the knockout rounds as group B runner-ups behind Cape Verde.

Speaking ahead of the game, Garry Rodrigues said: “Tomorrow will be a good match because we will face one of the best African teams, and we respect them a lot. We want to win the match and secure all 9 points in the group stage.

“We played two matches well and did everything we needed to do, but this is just the first step. We are focusing on the next stage, but we have to prepare for what comes after that.”

“Egypt is a great team with top players. I played with Ahmed Hegazi two years ago and talked to him. We will have a tough match like we did against Ghana.

“I assure you that we are a great team with our own goals, and we are in high spirits. All we need to do is focus and be confident, that’s all we need.

“I feel proud because we qualified for the next round of the tournament. There will be another match in the group against a very strong team. We always have the passion and desire to win matches, and we want the support of our fans. I believe we can deliver a good performance.”
