Emam Ashour speaks out for first time on 'life-threatening' injury

Egypt midfielder Emam Ashour has reflected on his ‘life-threatening’ head injury that he picked up ahead of the DR Congo clash.

The Egyptian Football Association announced that Emam Ashour suffered a head injury and a concussion during the team training on Wednesday.

Despite the fact he was discharged from the hospital, Ashour has been ruled out of the DR Congo tie in the AFCON round of 16 but should be fit for the quarter-finals if the Pharaohs make it through.

Ashour spoke out on his injury for the first time with a post on his Instagram account, in which he revealed that he was ‘between life and death’.

“Praise be to God for everything. First of all, I was between life and death, and what I saw yesterday, I wouldn’t wish anyone to see.

“I thank everyone who supported me yesterday, the team doctors, players, and the administrative staff.”

“Finally, there is nothing worth it in this world. Everything will end in a moment. Thanks be to God for everything, and God willing, I will be ready with my teammates.”

Emam Ashour has been one of Egypt’s stars in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, playing all three group games and impressing against both Ghana and Cape Verde.

This marks the third injury in the Egyptian camp after Mohamed Salah and Mohamed El-Shennawy, who both have been ruled out until the end of the tournament.
