The statement read that national team doctor Mohamed Abou El-Ela provided immediate medical attention to Ashour, who was rushed to the hospital and underwent all necessary examinations.
The scans confirmed a concussion, but his condition is currently stable, and the player will be kept under medical observation at the hospital for the next 24 hours.
Despite the fact he will be discharged from the hospital on Friday, Abou El-Ela has revealed that it’s highly unlikely that Ashour will make the DR Congo game, but should be ready starting from the quarter-finals.
“Emam Ashour tried an overhead kick and ended up falling on his head. I want to assure people that head injuries are very common in football,” Abou El-Ela said.
“We dealt with the matter promptly and went to the hospital for the player to undergo the necessary scans.
“Ashour is currently fully conscious, and in such situations, it is best to wait for 24 hours under observation in the hospital. Tomorrow he will be discharged from the hospital.”
When asked if Emam Ashour will make the upcoming match against DR Congo, he replied: “It will be difficult.
“According to the head injury protocol, in concussion cases, we need to implement a treatment program for six days, so he won’t have a chance to participate in the match.
“If Egypt advances past the next match, Emam Ashour will be present in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations.”
Emam Ashour has been one of Egypt’s stars in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, playing all three group games and impressing against both Ghana and Cape Verde.
This marks the third injury in the Egyptian camp after Mohamed Salah and Mohamed El-Shennawy, who both have been ruled out until the end of the tournament.
