Al Ahly request to postpone Medeama game after plane accident

Al Ahly have requested to postpone the Medeama Champions League game after the team’s plane was involved in an accident at Accra Airport.

The plane carrying the Al Ahly team delegation last evening to Kumasi had to make an emergency landing that forced it not to complete the journey.

The plane landed four hours ago at Accra Airport for refueling; however, while the plane was in preparation for a re-takeoff, it collided with a service vehicle, rendering it unable to fly to Kumasi on Wednesday.

The Al Ahly delegation was forced to enter Accra to stay overnight until the crisis was resolved and they could travel to Kumasi on Thursday.

As a result, the Reds requested the postponement of the Medeama game until the issue is resolved, either by the authorities in Ghana or by waiting for EgyptAir to send another plane to Accra to transport the team to Kumasi.

Al Ahly’s statement read:

“The plane carrying the Al Ahly team delegation this evening to Kumasi for the match against Medeama in the African Champions League faced emergency circumstances that forced it not to complete the journey. The plane landed four hours ago at Accra Airport for refueling. While the airport’s designated equipment was moving the plane in preparation for takeoff, it collided with the front of the plane, rendering it unfit for flying at present.

“Consequently, the Al Ahly delegation found themselves in a predicament, with the administrative staff seeking a hotel for an overnight stay, given the unavailability of domestic flights to continue the journey to Kumasi. Meanwhile, the club’s management is in intense communication with the Ministry of Aviation to take necessary actions.

“In light of these events, urgent contacts were made with the African Football Confederation to inform them of the situation and take the necessary steps towards postponing the match, allowing Al Ahly to reach Kumasi and participate in the game.”
