OFFICIAL: Egypt bid to host 2027 Africa Cup of Nations

Egypt has submitted a request to host the Africa Cup of Nations in 2027 through an official letter sent to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

On Thursday, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the list of countries that have applied to host AFCON 2027.

The list includes Algeria, Botswana, and a joint application from three East African countries – Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

“CAF receives declaration of interest from six countries for the Africa Cup of Nations 2027 hosting,” A statement by the Confederation of African Football read.

The statement also mentioned that the deadline for submitting final bids and all hosting documents is May 23, 2023, before the CAF inspection visits take place from June 1 to July 23, 2023.

Egypt has a rich history of hosting the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament. In fact, the country has hosted the tournament a record number of five times.

The first time Egypt hosted AFCON was in 1959, and then again in 1974. The country then went on to host the tournament in 1986, 2006, and most recently in 2019.

Egypt’s successful hosting of the tournament has been a testament to the country’s ability to organize major international events, and its passionate football fan base. The five-time host is no doubt a popular choice to host the tournament once again in the future.
