Future FC fined by CAF for fielding an illegible Ahmed Refaat

Confederation of African Football (CAF) have deducted six points from Future FC’s tally in CAF Confederations Cup following the participation of illegible Ahmed Refaat.

Refaat featured with Future FC in the preliminary round of the CAF Confederations Cup before he was loaned out to UAE’s Al Wahda.

However, the 29-year-old was recalled from his loan in the January transfer window and was included in Future’s squad for their games against AS FAR, ASKO Kara, and Pyramids without being re-registered in the club’s squad for the continental competition.

As a result, Pyramids and AS FAR sent an official complaint against Future before the sixth round of the CAF Confederations Cup due to the illegibility of Refaat’s participation.

CAF reached the conclusion that Future violated the regulations and decided to consider the matches in which Refaat took part as forfeited by the club.

Moreover, CAF imposed a fine of $10,000 on the Egyptian club.

“After discussing the matter, CAF Disciplinary Board decided to declare Ahmed Refaat as ineligible and consider the matches in which he took part as forfeited by Future FC,” CAF’s statement read.

“The Board also decided to impose a financial sanction of 10,000 USD upon Future FC which must be paid within 60 days,”

Future FC were eliminated from CAF Confederation Cup after losing to Pyramids FC on the final matchday.

The point deduction means that Future finish the group stages with four points in third place.
