The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have imposed heavy fines on Sudanese giants Al-Hilal following the incidents that took place in their game against Al Ahly.
The Red Devils had kicked off their campaign in the group stages with a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Al Hilal at Omdurman Stadium in the second round.
However, the game witnessed controversial incidents which led the Cairo giants to lodge several complaints to CAF over the violations that contradict all the sports’ ethics and regulations.
According to Al Ahly’s statement, the violations occurred before, during, and after the game, including Al-Hilal fans invading the pitch and throwing fireworks during the pre-game training session.
Moreover, Al Hilal allowed 1000 supporters into the stadium despite the decision to play the match behind closed doors, and finally, Al Ahly players Mohamed Abdel-Moneim, Mohamed El-Shennay, and Ali Lotfi were attacked by a member of Al Hilal’s medical staff.
Less than two weeks later, CAF’s Disciplinary Committee have imposed several heavy fines and bans on Al Hilal, which list as the following:
Team doctor Awad El-Gaaly was fined $10,000 in addition to a four-game ban.
Al Hilal was fined $20,000 for lack of security during Al Ahly’s training session.
Al Hilal to play their remaining Champions League games behind closed doors, with only 10 club officials to attend the games, and another 10 from the opposition.
Al Hilal confirmed they would appeal against the decision; however, if they fail to comply an additional fine of $50,000 will be imposed on the club.
Following the conclusion of the first legs, Al Hilal set second in group B with six points, two ahead of Al Ahly, while Mamelodi Sundowns sit top with seven points.
Al Hilal will play two games at home against Sundowns and Coton Sport, before travelling to Cairo to face Al Ahly in the final group-stage game.
