OFFICIAL: Guinea stripped of 2025 Africa Cup of Nations

Guinea have been stripped of the right to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals as the CAF revealed the country is not ready to hold the tournament.

The 2025 AFCON is scheduled to be the 35th edition of the biennial tournament and its hosting rights were given to Guinea after winning with the most votes.

However, the country has been going through tough times politically, which might have had a negative effect on their infrastructure & facilities progress.

As a result, the CAF have decided to strip Guinea of the rights to host the 2025 AFCON finals due to the country’s lack of quality infrastructure and facilities to host the competition.

“The Executive Committee was unanimous that Guinea will not be ready to host the competition,” CAF said in a statement.

“The Executive Committee resolved to send a delegation to Guinea to inform them of CAF’s decision to withdraw the Africa Cup of Nations, Guinea 2025 from Guinea.”

Moreover, CAF executive committee will be meeting in Algiers on Saturday to reopen the bidding process for the tournament.

Reports emerged that Morocco and Algeria are in the leading position to get the hosting rights alongside Nigeria who are plotting a joint bid with Benin.
