Saudi club Al Shabab targets AC Milan midfielder as Rakitic replacement

AC Milan’s French midfielder Yacine Adli has received an offer from Saudi Pro League club Al Shabab after he was deemed surplus to requirements in Milan.

AC Milan are hoping to sell Adli this summer but the midfielder’s preference is to stay in the Lombardy capital and fight for his place.

The 24-year-old did not see a single minute of action in the Rossoneri’s pre-season friendly against Manchester City, a clear sign that he is not in Milan’s new manager Paulo Fonseca’s plans.

Last season, Adli scored one goal and provided two assists in 1860 minutes of action across 33 appearances and Milan will be hoping that the player is encouraged by the Saudi offer.

According to Calciomercato, Al Shabab submitted an offer worth around €14m for Adli, which Milan is happy to accept; however, the player’s desire to stay halted the deal.

A former PSG youngster, Adli joined AC Milan in the summer of 2020 from Bordeaux, making 39 appearances for the club since then, including three in the UEFA Champions League.

Although Al-Shabab isn’t one of the PIF-owned clubs, they still managed to do some huge deals in the market, signing Ivan Rakitic and Yannick Carrasco last season, which helped them finish eighth in the Saudi Pro League.

With Rakitic leaving for Hajduk Split earlier this summer, Al-Shabab sees Adli as his ideal replacement, with the club also signing Ittihad duo Haroune Camara and Abderrazak Hamdallah.
