Having spent the majority of the 22/23 season on the sidelines due to injury, Ibrahimovic made a trip to the San Siro to watch AC Milan’s final Serie A game on Sunday, after which he broke down in tears to announce his decision.

Ibrahimovic now hangs up his boots after an incredible 24-year career that saw him play for Malmö FF, Ajax, Juventus, Inter Milan, Barcelona, AC Milan, PSG, Manchester United, and LA Galaxy.

It was at Ajax when he first announced himself on the European stage and formed a strong partnership and friendship with Egyptian football legend Ahmed Hossam Mido.

The duo played together for 30 games over two seasons, before Mido switched Ajax for Celta Vigo on loan in January 2003 and then departing for Marseille permetanly in the summer.

“Congratulations Ibrahimovic on a great career, you done your country, family, but mostly yourself proud,” Mido posted on his Twitter account.

“Good luck in your next chapter you will do great in anything you will decide to do.

“It was an honor to play alongside you I’ve learned a lot of things from you on and off the pitch. God bless you and bless your Family.”
