Only showed up during training sessions and food breaks, Ramzy on Salgado

Ex-Egypt assistant coach Hany Ramzy has spoken on the presence of Míchel Salgado in the national team, saying the Spaniard didn’t have any role.

Hosts Egypt suffered a shock exit from the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations following a late defeat to South Africa in the round of 16.

Following the humiliating exit, EFA president Hany Abou-Rida left his position alongside a number of board members, including Hazem Emam and Ahmed Shobeir.

The EFA also announced the sacking of Javier Aguirre as the Egyptian national team manager alongside his full staff after the disappointing 2019 AFCON campaign.

One of the sacked staff members was Real Madrid legend Míchel Salgado, who according to the EFA joined the national team staff as a third assistant to Aguirre, alongside Tito Garcia Sanjuan and Hany Ramzy.

However, Ramzy claims that Salgado didn’t have any tactical role in the national team and was appointed by the EFA without Aguirre’s knowledge.

“Aguirre informed me that the EFA have appointed Salgado before his arrival in Egypt. He spoke about the Spaniard’s good personality and said that he doesn’t mind having him as a staff member,” Ramzy said.

“Salgado never spoke with us about tactics and only showed up during training sessions and food breaks. He didn’t have any role in the national team at all.

“Sometimes he would train with the players, but he didn’t have any tactical intervention even if Aguirre or the EFA asked him to do so,” he added.
