Ahmed Elmohamady scores as Egypt down Tanzania 1-0 in Pre-AFCON friendly

Ahmed Elmohamady scored the only goal the Egyptian National Team defeated Tanzania 1-0 in a friendly encounter in preparation for the 2019 African Cup of Nations.

The Pharaohs controlled the early stages of the game as they piled up pressure and tried to push forward. The first real threat came in the sixth minute, when Amr Warda controlled a long through pass up the left flank, however, his right footed curler was blocked by Tanzania’s goalkeeper.

In the 22nd minute, Warda was once again at heart of attack for Egypt, when he headed Ayman Ashraf’s accurately crossed ball, but the goalkeeper saved it into a corner kick.

Ashraf tried his luck in the 34th minute, as he advanced towards the box after a number of successful passes. The goalkeeper once again brilliantly denied his left footed effort, to keep the game deadlocked.

In the final moments of the first half, Abdallah El-Said sent an in-swinging crossed freekick towards Mahmoud Alaa, who squared the ball towards Ahmed Elmohamady, however, the Captain’s close range strike was cleared off the goal-line by Gadiel Kamagi.

The second half got off to an electrifying fashion, as Elmohamady sent a well-placed cross towards Walid Soliman, whose header cannoned off the woodwork, just five minutes after the restart.

Four minutes past the one-hour mark, Ahmed Mansour went up the left flank and found Elmohamady with a brilliantly crossed ball inside the box. Aston’s Villa’s fullback headed it into the top corner to snatch the lead for the Pharaohs.

Tanzania nearly leveled things up in the dying moments of the game, when Mbwana Samatta took the ball in the midfield and advanced towards Egypt’s box, however, his strike was cleverly saved by Mahmoud ‘Gennesh’

Egypt are set to take on Naby Keita’s Guinea in their final friendly test ahead of the 2019 AFCON on the 16th of June.
