Uganda national team manager Sebastien Desabre believes that his squad has enough quality to make their mark in the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Uganda were drawn in Group A alongside hosts Egypt, DR Congo and Zimbabwe. Their first game will be on June 22 against DR Congo in the Cairo International Stadium.

Even though the Cranes are far from being the favourites to top their group their manager, Sebastien Desabre, believes that the players they’ve got could surprise many in the tournament.

“My priority is to be in cohesion with my players. We are not ranked at the same level of some big teams in Africa but our quality is good,” Desabre told The Monitor.

“We don’t have those very big players but we are very good as a unit. I have asked my boys to take the chance to show that Uganda is a good team and we have good players.

“A lot of people talk about how good we are in defending, which is true, but we also have knowledge in offensive. I have asked my boys to have confidence in creating some things (upfront) because we have to enjoy these things,” he added.

Uganda were drawn to a surprise 1-1 draw against Turkmenistan in their first pre-AFCON friendly. They will face Ivory Coast on Saturday afternoon in their final preparation game.
