Jurgen Klopp has provided an update on Mohamed Salah after the Egyptian was stretchered off the pitch with a head injury against Newcastle United.

Liverpool beat Newcastle United in a five-goal thriller at the St. James’ Park to keep their Premier League title hopes alive with only one game to go.

When the score was tied at 2-2, Egypt international Mohamed Salah, who scored his side’s second goal, fell inside the penalty area after a heavy collision with Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

Salah received lengthy treatment on the pitch before eventually leaving the field while being carried off in tears as he looks like he will miss the Champions League semi-final second leg against Barcelona on Tuesday.

Speaking after game, Klopp said: “We have to see, he got a proper knock on the head. He watched the game inside, it seems OK but we have to make a further assessment.

“The doctor had to make a decision and the decision was off the pitch.

“When we came in he was sitting in the dressing room watching the game. He was fine but we have to wait,” Klopp added.

Following his strike, Salah is currently leading the Premier League Golden Boot with 22 goals, two more than Sergio Agüero and Sadio Mané. However, the Man City forward still have an extra game to play.

The hard-fought win means that Liverpool will hold on to their hopes of winning the Premier League, as they currently top the table with 94 points and will await Manchester City’s Monday clash against Leicester City.
