BBC pundit & former Tottenham player Garth Crooks has attacked Mohamed Salah, saying the Egyptian is negatively affecting his teammates.
Against Southampton at the weekend, Salah delivered a beautiful cross onto the head of Sadio Mane to fire Liverpool ahead in the first half as the Reds cruised to a 2-0 victory.
However, Crooks has ignored the Egyptian in his BBC Sport Team of the Week, while making an audacious claim about the Egyptian’s season.
Salah is currently sitting second on the Premier League scoring charts with 20 goals, just one behind Tottenham star Harry Kane.
Crooks believes that Salah is setting his mind to the Golden Boot only, which is having a negative impact on the whole Liverpool squad.
“Mohamed Salah only seems interested in the Golden Boot and I think that is having a negative effect on some of his teammates,” Crooks said.
The claim could only be seen as laughable since the Egyptian has made created chances than any other Liverpool player this season and also has a higher expected assists tally than anyone else.
Statistically, Salah is having a great season individually, however, the Reds are currently suffering after the team was knocked out from the Champions League, and lie sixth on the league table.
Their target for the remainder of this season is to finish among the top four in order to secure themselves a place in the Champions League next season, but it won’t be easy to achieve as they will kick things off with a postponed game with rivals Manchester United on Thursday.
