Egypt international Ahmed Hegazi has scored an own and was sent off in West Brom’s 2-0 away defeat to Millwall on Saturday.

The Baggies entered the game sitting fourth and needed the three points in order to keep their automatic promotion hopes alive.

However, things didn’t go as planned for the West Brom, as Ryan Tunnicliffe gave Millwall a 30th-minute lead after drilling a low shot underneath Sam Johnstone.

In the closing stages of the first-half, Ahmed Hegazi received a yellow card, and he didn’t know that his afternoon was about to get much worse in the second-half.

In the 66th minute, Hegazi turned Ben Thompson’s cross to the back of his net, making it 2-0, and 12 minutes later he was sent off for a second bookable offence after tackling Lee Gregory.

As expected West Brom failed to come back from behind and settled for a 2-0 defeat which kept them fourth with 70 points, seven behind the automatic promotion places.

The sending off means that Hegazi will miss the Baggies’ next league fixture against sixth-placed Bristol City on Tuesday as a punishment.

The red card is Ahmed Hegazi’s first in over four years, with his last one coming against Spezia in February 2015 during his time with AC Perugia in the Serie B.
