Pharaohs Abroad Roundup: Salah scores as Liverpool edge Bournemouth

KingFut rounds up the Pharaohs Abroad action this week to keep you up to date with Egyptian players overseas.

This week the most notable performance came from the Ahmed Hassan ‘Kouka’, who scored in Olympiacos’ 3-2 defeat against PAOK in the Greek Cup and Mohamed Salah, who found the net as the Reds returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory against Bournemouth.

March 4

Ahmed Hassan ‘Kouka’ – Olympiacos (Greece)

Greek Cup – Kouka continued to impress as Olympiacos fell to a 3-2 defeat against PAOK in the first leg of the Cup’s semifinals. The Egyptian opened the scoring just three minutes into the game. However after going 2-0 infront in the opening eight minutes, the Red & Whites conceded three goals. Olympiacos’ next game will be against Wolverhampton in the UEFA Europa League on the 12th of March.

March 6

Mohamed Elneny – Besiktas (Turkey)

Super Lig – Besiktas registered a 2-1 victory against MKE Ankaragucu in the 25th league fixture. Elneny was shown a yellow card in the 52nd minute. Both Burak Yilmaz and Adem Ljajic was on the scoresheet for the Black Eagles. Following the victory, Besiktas occupy the fifth spot with 43 points ahead of their derby clash against Galatasaray on the Mar.15.

March 7

Karim Hafez – Yeni Malatyaspor (Turkey)

Super Lig – Hafez played the full 90 minutes as Yeni Malatyaspor were held to a 1-1 draw against Konyaspor in the 25th fixture of the Turkish Super Lig. Riad Bajic scored for Konyaspor in the final moments of the first half, however, Murat Yildirim leveled things up in 80th minute. After the draw, Malatyaspor sit 13th with 25 points and will host Trabzonspor on the 11th of March.

Mohamed Salah – Liverpool (England)

Premier League – The Egyptian King registered his 16th league goal this season, as he scored in Liverpool’s 2-1 win against Bournemouth in the 29th league fixture. After the win, the Reds cemented their position on top of the league table with 82 points, 25 points away from Manchester City before facing Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League on the 11th of March.

Ahmed Hegazi – West Bromwich Albion (England)

Championship – Hegazi missed due to injury in West Brom’s goalless draw against Swansea City in the Championship. Following the draw, the Baggies fell to the second spot with 70 points before hosting Birmingham City on Mar.14.

Sam Morsy – Wigan (England)

Championship – Morsy captained Wigan in their 0-0 draw against Luton Town in the 37th league fixture. The draw takes the Latics to the 20th spot with 41 points, just two points away from relegation zone ahead of their away encounter against Huddersfield Town on the 14th of March.

Amro Tarek – New York Red Bulls (United States)

MLS – Tarek featured as Red Bulls were held to a very late 1-1 draw by Real Salt Lake in the second league fixture. Cristian Casseres broke the deadlock in the 13th minute, but Damir Kreilach scored the equaliser for the hosts in the dying moments of the game. Following the draw, Red Bulls sit eighth with four points and will face Minnesota United FC in the next fixture.

March 9

Mahmoud Trezeguet & Ahmed Elmohamady – Aston Villa (England)

Premier League – Elmohamady featured, while, Trezeguet was an unused substitute as the Villans suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat against Leicester City in the Premier League. Jamie Vardy and Harvey Barnes both scored braces in the game. After the loss, Villa sit 19th with just 25 points ahead of their difficult encounter against Chelsea on Mar.14.
