Pharaohs Abroad Roundup: Morsy scores to sink West Brom

KingFut rounds up the Pharaohs Abroad action this week to keep you up to date with Egyptian players overseas.

This week the most notable performance came from the Sam Morsy, who scored as Wigan defeated Ahmed Hegazi’s West Bromwich Albion 1-0 in the Championship.

The biggest disappointment, however, came from Mohamed Salah, as Liverpool suffered two consecutive defeats against Watford in the Premier League and Chelsea in the FA Cup.

February 26

Sam Morsy – Wigan (England)

Championship – Morsy captained Wigan to an entertaining 3-0 win against Reading in the 35th league fixture. After the victory, the Latics occupy the 22nd position with 37 points ahead of their anticipated clash against Ahmed Hegazi’s West Bromwich Albion next week.

February 28

Mohamed Elneny – Besiktas (Turkey)

Super Lig – Elneny assisted in Besiktas’ 2-1 win against Alanyaspor in the 24th fixture of the Super Lig, thanks to Burak Yilmaz’ brace. The win takes the Black & Whites to the fifth position with 40 points before hosting Ankaragucu on Mar.6.

Ahmed Hegazi – West Bromwich Albion & Sam Morsy – Wigan (England)

Championship – Morsy scored the winner as Wigan edged Hegazi’s West Brom 1-0 in the Championship. The Egyptian defender was forced off the pitch after picking up a hamstring injury in the 43rd minute. After the game, Wigan moved to the 19th spot with 40 points, meanwhile, the Baggies remain on top of the league table with 69 points.

Mohamed Salah – Liverpool (England)

Premier League – Liverpool suffered their first league defeat when they fell to a disappointing 3-0 loss against Watford in the 28th Premier League fixture. Despite the loss, the Reds remain on top of the league table with 79 points, 22 points away from Manchester City ahead of their encounter against Chelsea in the FA Cup.

March 1

Karim Hafez – Yeni Malatyaspor (Turkey)

Super Lig – Malatyaspor suffered another 2-0 defeat against Denizlispor as Hafez played the full 90 minutes. After the loss, Malatyaspor dropped to the 13th spot with 24 points and will face Konyaspor on Mar.7.

Mahmoud Trezeguet & Ahmed Elmohamady – Aston Villa (England)

EFL Cup – Elmohamady started, meanwhile, Trezeguet came on as a second half substitute as Villa lost the EFL Cup final match 2-1 against Manchester City. Sergio Aguero and Rodri made it 2-0 in the opening 30 minutes, meanwhile, Mbwana Samatta pulled one back in the 41st minute, however, the Villans failed to find the equaliser. It is worth mentioning that Villa’s next encounter will be against Leicester City on the ninth of March.

Amr Warda & Aly Ghazal – AE Larisa (Greece)

Super League – Both Ghazal and Warda featured as Larisa returned to winning ways with a huge 3-0 win against Asteras Tripolis in the 26th fixture of the league, thanks to Radomir Milosavlijevic’s impressive hattrick that secured the victory for the hosts. The win takes Larisa to the eighth spot with 30 points.

Ahmed Hassan ‘Kouka’ – Olympiacos (Greece)

Super League – Kouka returned to the starting XI as Olympiacos defeated Panetolikos 2-0 in the 26th league fixture to secure the league’s top spot and qualification to the playoffs.

Amro Tarek – New York Red Bulls (United States)

MLS – Amro Tarek featured in the opening game of the league as Red Bulls edged FC Cincinnati in a five-goal thriller to earn their first three points before facing Real Salt Lake in the next fixture on the seventh of March.

March 3

Mohamed Salah – Liverpool (England)

FA Cup – Salah came on in the 80th minute as Liverpool exited the FA Cup, after falling to a 2-0 defeat against Chelsea. Willian and Ross Barkley scored for the Blues to secure qualification to the tournament’s next round. The Reds next clash will be against Bournemouth in the English Premier League on Mar.7.
