Better than Queiroz, Mido defends new Egypt coach Ehab Galal

Mido defends Ehab Galal after taking charge of Egypt national team

Egyptian football legend Ahmed Hossam Mido defended newly appointed national team manager Ehab Galal against heavy criticism he received.

Following the departure of Carlos Queiroz, the EFA announced Ehab Galal as the new national team manager.

Multiple names surfaced as candidates for the job, including Ehab Galal, Hossam Hassan, Ali Maher, Vahid Halilhodžić, former coach Hector Cuper, and even managerial legend Hassan Shehata.

But it was Galal who was chosen by the EFA, having been so close to taking the job back in 2019 after the departure of Javier Aguirre, before it was given to Hossam El-Badry.

The 54-year-old will start his journey with the Pharaohs after leading Pyramids in the CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals clash with TP Mazembe.

The decision to choose an Egyptian manager for the national team job was a controversial one, with many believing local coaches don’t have the required quality to guide the national team.

However, Mido believes Ehab Galal should be given a chance as he’s one of the best managers right now in Egypt.

“Ehab Galal is one of the few Egyptian coaches who have a personality and a style,” Mido said.

“We can discuss whether he’s doing well or not, but not before he takes his chance.

“In the worst-case scenario, Galal will still be a better fit for the national team than Carlos Queiroz.

“Supporting Ehab Galal is a national duty, he’s a respected coach that deserves a fair chance.”
