Pitso Mosimane gives explanation behind Al Masry defeat

Mosimane

Al Ahly head coach, Pitso Mosimane, gave his explanation as to why they lost against Al Masry in the Egyptian Premier League.

Al Ahly suffered their first league defeat of the season on Saturday night to Al Masry.

Tunisian defender Haithem Layouni scored the only goal for the Port Said giants in the eighth minute.

The Red Devils were outplayed for the entirety of the game, but Mosimane believes this is due to the intensity of their schedule.

“Abdelkader was suffering from an injury, that’s why he didn’t start the match and participated in the second-half,” Mosimane said in the post-match press conference.

“Al Masry’s match is our third in seven days, after a difficult match against Sudan’s Al-Hilal and another against Ittihad of Alexandria.

“The level of matches such as the Al Masry match is difficult and there are some things we can’t do.

“The Al Masry match is different from the rest of the matches, and if it was played at another time, you would’ve seen more fight, as the players did in the previous encounters.

“The next match is an opportunity for players to regain confidence and prove themselves. It’s good that we will play in the Cairo International Stadium, that way we can play the Al Ahly style,” he concluded.

Al Ahly still maintain their spot at the top of the Egyptian Premier League after the defeat with 31 points after 12 games but are now level on points with arch-rivals Zamalek, who managed to beat Misr El-Makkasa with 10 men.
