Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, spoke about the ongoing negotiations between Mohamed Salah and the Liverpool board.

Salah is yet to put pen to paper a new contract with Liverpool, with negotiations having reportedly stalled in the past few months.

Despite being the team’s biggest star, guiding them to several trophies, and breaking records left and right along the way, the Reds are refusing Salah’s financial demands.

The 29-year-old is reportedly asking for a sum of around £300,000 and £400,000 in weekly wages, which would force them to surpass their very strict salary cap.

With his contract expiring at the end of next season, Salah has been linked with a move away from Anfield.

Several clubs such as Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly shown interest in the two-time Golden Boot winner’s signature.

In more recent developments, several rumours have emerged suggesting that the Reds and Salah have finally reached an agreement, with only the announcement pending.

When asked to give updates about the situation, Klopp said he’s just happy that both parties are talking.

“There’s nothing new to say. The decisive parties are talking to each other and that is all I need,” Klopp said in the Benfica pre-match press conference.

Salah

The German coach then commented on Salah’s recent goal drought, as the Egyptian has only found the back of the net on one occasion in his last six appearances for Liverpool.

“The performance level is important, the threat he brings against other teams,” he added.

“He could decide in a better way sometimes but it is a tough period for Mo and Sadio with the African Cup of Nations and coming back from internationals.

“We see Mo every day in training and playing, there is nothing to worry about,” he concluded.
