Pharaohs coach ‘certain’ Egypt FA wants Carlos Queiroz to stay

Egypt national team assistant coach, Roger De Sa, spoke about his future with the Pharaohs and their achievements so far.

In September of last year, Carlos Queiroz was appointed as Egypt’s national team manager after the dismissal of Hossam El-Badry.

One of his first decision was to bring Roger De Sa, who was coaching South African club Cape Umoya United FC, to his coaching staff.

Since then, the duo has led the Pharaohs to the semi-finals of the Arab Cup in Qatar and the final of the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

They were also close to the 2022 World Cup qualification but their side was eliminated after losing to Senegal in a penalty shootout.

The 69-year-old resigned from his position after losing to the Teranga Lions, but the EFA are yet to accept his request.

De Sa believes that the EFA is keen on keeping them but is still waiting for their final decision.

“We will know in a couple of days whether the federation is keen to keep us on board. Carlos did say that he was resigning but it has not been accepted,” De Sa told the Sunday World.

“I’m certain that they want us to stay

“Considering the difficult circumstances. We lost eight defenders and had to go with our ninth-choice defender at some stage.

“We held our own against a very strong and competitive Senegal team. Except for one, all their players are playing in the UEFA Champions League for the biggest teams in the world.

“We only have one or two players in the Champions League.

“We played 21 matches in six months and lost three games. We are now number four on the Africa rankings just after superpowers Senegal, Morocco, and Nigeria,” he concluded.
