Saudi club Al-Nassr make formal bid for Zamalek defender

Mahmoud Hamdy El-Wensh

The interest of Saudi giants Al-Nassr in Zamalek and Egypt defender Mahmoud Hamdy El-Wensh have apparently become more concrete with the Saudi Professional League title holders making an official offer to Zamalek.

El-Wensh has been delivering stellar performances for Zamalek throughout the past couple of years and cemented himself as one of the most prominent central defenders in Egypt, if not the most.

El-Wensh joined Zamalek from Tala’a El-Gaish back in summer 2016. During his five year spell with the Whites he participated in 161 games scoring six goals and making another three.

The real breakthrough in the 26-year-old’s career was in the past two years when he upped his showings with the team, the thing which attracted interest from several big clubs in Gulf region.

Al-Nassr are struggling this season in the Saudi league and sit in the sixth place with 46 points from 30 games, far away from league leaders Al Hilal and the top 3 positions.

The Saudi outfit have submitted a formal offer in order to sign El-Wensh from Zamalek with the offered figure still undisclosed.

Though Zamalek refuse the idea of selling El-Wensh at the time being due to his importance to the team and are expected to meet his entourage to discuss a contract extension with an improved salary.

El-Wensh played 23 games in the Egyptian Premier League this season and has contributed to the team’s dominance in the league so far.

He is one of the players that are probable to join the Egypt U-23 squad in their trip to Tokyo for the Olympics.
