Egypt giants Zamalek SC have officially announced the club have opened a bank account in order to start fundraising to support the club financially in order to coop with spending on the first team and the contract renewal.
Zamalek have been struggling financially since the end of last year after former club president Mortada Mansour was suspended by the Ministry of Sports last month after some financial breaches were found and referred to the Egyptian Public Prosecution with investigations still ongoing.
They were replaced by a temporary committee led by former club board member and president of the Court of Appeal in Cairo, Ahmed Bakry, who later on passed away due to coronavirus and replaced by Emad Abdel-Aziz.
The football department at the club have found difficulties in contract renewal talks with the team’s big players with expiring contracts.
Zamalek are set to lose Tunisia star Ferjani Sassi after they failed to reach an economic agreement for his contract renewal, with the 29-year-old seems headed to Qatari side Al Duhail.
The Whites are also looking to inject more funds in the club and the team in order to finance the contract extensions for other players.
The club, therefore, decided to open a bank account to fundraise money from the public and Zamalek fans to help the club.
Zamalek TV presenter and former captain Khaled El-Ghandour has called for fans to go and support the club by donating money, even if they are going to pay just one Egyptian pound.
“There are attempts from Zamalek rivals to belittle from the initiative by making fun of it. The goal is to frustrate the idea. Al Ahly is one of the first clubs that made this idea by collecting donations and support from businessmen,” El-Ghandour said.
