Ali Maaloul

Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly have reportedly halted their negotiations with Ali Maaloul over a new contract until after their CAF Champions League match against Esperance.

Maaloul signed for Al Ahly in the summer of 2016 from Tunisian side CS Sfaxien, and since then has become one of their most consistent players, making 150 appearances for the club.

The 31-year-old has won nine trophies with the Red Devils including four Egyptian Premier League titles, two Egypt Cups, two Egyptian Super Cups, a Champions League trophy, and the CAF Super Cup.

With his contract set to expire next year, precisely in June 2022, Al Ahly have opened negotiations for a second contract renewal.

Maaloul has reportedly told the board that he’s happy to remain at the club, but they will wait until after the CAF Champions League clash against Esperance to start discussing the details of the contract. He will sign the contract after their continental campaign.

Al Ahly have put one foot in the CAF Champions League final after beating Esperance Sportive de Tunis 1-0 at home.

The Reds need to at least a draw in Egypt in order to reach the Champions League final for the second consecutive year, where they will face either Wydad Casablanca or Kaizer Chiefs.

This means that Maaloul will most likely sign his contract extension after the CAF Champions League final, scheduled on July 17 at the Mohammed V stadium in Casablanca, Morocco.
