Momen Zakaria casts thoughts on Al Ahly, Esperance clash

Former Al Ahly star Momen Zakaria has analysed the CAF Champions League semifinalists stating that the encounter between Al Ahly and Esperance de Tunis will be tough for the Red Devils.

A 1-1 draw was enough for the Red Devils to clinch a spot in the next round, knocking out Mamelodi Sundowns with a 3-1 victory on aggregate to mark their 17th semi-final appearance in the competition, the most for any team in Africa.

On the other hand, Esperance pulled a comeback against CR Belouizdad and winning the game on penalties after the tie ended with 2-2 draw on aggregate.

The encounter is scheduled to take place on June 19 in Rades with the return leg scheduled to be played on the 26th of the same month in Cairo.

“All sides in the Champions League semifinal have a chance in claiming the title,” Zakaria told Al Nahar TV.

“The Esperance clash won’t be easy [for Al Ahly]. The Tunisian team is better this season, they have a strong midfield and a good attack as well. Mosimane will most likely pick the same lineup that faced Sundowns in the quarterfinal.”

Zakaria was diagnosed with the rare neurological disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), in 2019 and hasn’t made any official appearance since 2018.

The player has been receiving treatment from the disease for some time and it seems he is responding well to it.

“My treatment is progressing well and God willing things will be better going forward.”
