Zamalek consider legal action against Ferjani Sassi

Zamalek treasurer Tarek Kandil has disclosed that the club have fulfilled all the late dues towards first team midfielder Ferjani Sassi, saying that the club is currently evaluating taking a legal action against the Tunisia star.

The Whites have been struggling to renew Sassi’s contract for the past months due to the lack of financial resources at the club and he is now allowed to join any club for free next summer, as his contract is set to expire.

The Tunisia international has been linked with many clubs in the Gulf region, including Qatari duo Al-Rayyan and Al-Duhail, being interested in his signature.

Zamalek, however, remained hopeful that they could persuade Sassi to remain at the club with the head of the normalization committee, Hussein Labib, saying that they are prepared to do whatever it takes.

But Sassi sent a cryptic message on Wednesday that seemed to have poured cold water on Labib’s endeavors, hinting at his possible departure this summer.

Former Zamalek board member stated that Sassi and his agent kept stalling the new contract talks over the plea of the late dues, but the club treasurer confirmed that the club fulfilled all their financial commitments towards him.

“Sassi received all his past dues. He sent a statement that May 30 is the deadline to receive his dues and we indeed managed to pay him his money before that date,” Kandil told MBC Masr channel.

“Sassi is supposed to return to Cairo on July 15-16. Our lawyer and legal affairs are studying all alternative proceedings to take. He could have signed for another club and doesn’t want to play for Zamalek anymore,” he concluded.
